Welcome back to featured Friday. This week we are featuring one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Amy Wall aka Littlemissmake-up is a very talented makeup artist and beauty specialist from Co. Waterford. She suffers with a selection of chronic illnesses. Even though her illnesses leave her completely bedbound sometimes, she still remains positive and upbeat. I had the pleasure of meeting Amy at a blogger event last year. She is a little stunner and takes great pride in her appearance and immaculately applied makeup. Seriously this girl has got some amazing makeup skills and is also very kind, gentle and extremely genuine. Amy is currently undergoing treatment in hospital so I would like to send all my love and best wishes her way.
Please introduce yourself? Do you blog, if so please tell us about it?
Hey I am Amy. I have a beauty and wellness blog called Littlemissmake-up. I am a qualified beauty specialist and adore everything beauty related but unfortunately due to illness I am unable to work. I decided to start blogging as a hobby but it quickly developed into something I am very passionate about. I openly discuss my chronic conditions with the hope of raising awareness and also share some makeup tips for expertly applying your makeup.
Do you personally or does someone close to you suffer with a physical and/or mental illness?
I suffer with quite an array of chronic illnesses including Elhers Danlos Syndrome (type three), Fibromyalgia, POTS, IBS, Dyspraxia, Sleep disturbances, CFS and MCAS. I also suffer with anxiety and depression.
What has illness taught you?
Illness has shown me my true inner strength. Even though I have my breakdowns I always come back fighting. It has also taught me to appreciate everything big and small and who my real friends are. Living with chronic illness is hard and you lose people who you considered friends but I am grateful for having an amazing best friend who is always there for me no matter what.
Please tell us something not a lot of people would know about you?
Something not a lot of people would know about is my intense fear of butterflies. I am absolutely terrified of them and will scream the house down if I see one indoors. I can have full-blown panic attacks if one even comes close to touching me. My fear is that intense. I think the fear stems back to an incident in Portugal when I was a child. I awoke one night with a fright to a butterfly flapping at my back. It must have flown in an open window and got entangled in my nightie. Ever since then I have been absolutely terrified of them.
Who inspires you and why?
I know this might sound cliché but my Mam really inspires me. She too suffers with illness (gout and arthritis) but somehow manages to work and look after myself and my brother. She never complains even when she is barely able to walk and will do anything she can for me. I appreciate her so much and really look up to her. She is an inspiration and if I turn out to be even half the Mam she is I will be blessed.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
As much as I love to travel, especially to warm countries, my favourite place is at home with my family. I love when we all get together in the living room and just watch the TV. It makes me so happy knowing we are all together in the one place.
Outside of blogging what do you like to do with your free time?
I love spending time with my family and my boyfriend. I also really enjoy going into town with my Mam and Nanny where we end up having some lunch and browsing the shops together. Another favourite is to take long drives in the car with my boyfriend and our regular Sunday night treat of dominos pizza. I love spending time with him even if it’s just staying in and snuggling whilst watching the TV.
If you could sum up your life in one quote what would it be?
Hmm that’s a hard one but I have to say: “difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”.
