Wild Oats Soap

Wild Oats Soap are an Irish natural skin and body care company based in Co.Waterford. The founders Deirdre Meany and Karen Cottier produce a beautiful range of natural skincare products in a converted farm building located just outside Lismore. Both Deirdre and Karen are “passionate about creating bathing products that indulge the senses as well as the skin”. Each ingredient has been sourced with great care and thoroughly researched. Only the best ingredients make it into their products. They also support local business by including Flahavan’s Organic Oats in their soaps and bath milks. Karen kindly sent me out a little package of goodies to try in 2016. I initially wrote a review post regarding these products over on my Facebook page that has since got lost in the masses so I thought it was important to rewrite my review and publish it on my official blog page. The package I received contained a restoring body oil and two natural soaps which I discuss in detail below.

Mamma’s Restoring Oil with Neroli & Lemongrass – €9.95

What can I say about this beautiful body oil? Well firstly you don’t have to be a Mamma to use it. It is suitable for both men and women alike. It is also gentle to use on both sensitive and problematic skin. I particularly like to apply this type of body oil on to my damp skin after I have taken a long shower/bath. I think you get the true benefits out of the wonderful ingredients if you exfoliate your skin beforehand. The overall scent is both uplifting and invigorating. The combination of lavender, lemongrass and neroli make for a real olfactory experience. Yes, the scent is strong but not headache inducing strong. I think with regards essential oils, they have chosen a selection that really harmonise together beautifully. The almond and avocado oils used in this body oil absorb easily into the skin. It is in no means a heavy oil that just sits on top of the skin. It definitely makes your skin feel beautifully soft and that effect lasts for hours after application. The oil itself is contained in a dark glass bottle to help protect its contents from sunlight.

Mamma’s Restoring Body Oil

I have purchased this body oil twice since initially trying it out. I would highly recommend purchasing a bottle but make sure you like the scent of neroli, lavender and lemongrass first as I know some people don’t like powerful scents. As my skin has been really suffering this past year, I have experimented with quite a few different types of body oils from various brands across the market. I would rate Wild Oats Soap Mamma’s Restouring Oil up there amongst the best. The only slight issue I have regarding this oil is that the outside of the bottle can get completely covered in oil and since the bottle is composed of glass, it can easily slip out of your hand. I have had a few near misses with it either just skimming my toes or bouncing but thankfully not smashing on the tiled floor in my bathroom.

Gentle and Gorgeous Soaps

Gentle Soap with Elderflower, Lavender and Goats Milk – €5.95

Like it’s name, the gentle soap is formulated for those of us who suffer with sensitive and/or problematic skin. Basically me in a nutshell! The combination of locally sourced wild elderflower, lavender and goats milk results in a soothing and gentle bar of soap. The addition of oats gently exfoliate the skin which is a godsend when you have itchy or inflamed skin. The oats not only remove dead skin cells but also help lubricate the skin.

Gentle Soap

This bar of soap is fantastic for gently cleansing your skin and will be a welcome addition to your morning shower. I found this soap gentle enough to use on my skin rashes but as my face is always super sensitive, I avoided applying it to the facial area. I like how it does not leave your skin feeling tight or dry which is important when you suffer with problematic skin. I also like how the ingredients contained in the soap are all derived naturally. The soap itself is fairly substantial and even with daily use will last a good few weeks. It is only mildly fragranced which is perfect when you are still half asleep hopping into your morning shower. I don’t know if it is just me but my sense of smell is overly sensitive in the morning time. So much so that any strong odour makes me queasy.

Gorgeous Soap with Neroli & Clary Sage – €5.95

The combination of beautiful pink packaging and the “gorgeous” name of this soap instantly appealed to me. Yes, I am a sucker for anything cerise pink! I am also a big fan of neroli and lavender essential oils as they complement each other beautifully.  The neroli oil is distilled from the blossoms of the Seville orange tree and it is such an uplifting scent that I tend to buy perfumes that contain this wonderful oil to help lift my mood. The power of fragrances, especially the ones that appeal to you can really do wonders for your mood. Even when I am stuck in bed feeling like poo, I like to spray some of my favourite fragrance onto my wrist to cheer me up. Scents can evoke such beautiful memories.

Gorgeous Soap

Like the gentle soap mentioned above, this soap contains nourishing olive, coconut and sweet almond oils combined with gentle water and oats. Clary sage helps reduce inflammation and acts as an antiseptic. Whereas pink clay helps reduce skin irritation and minimises blackheads. I really enjoyed using this soap especially during my evening shower.  The mixture of essential oils leaves a beautiful but delicate scent on my skin. My skin did not feel dry or tight after use and the addition of oats greatly aided in removing dead skin cells. The bar of soap itself lasts for a few weeks even with daily use and I would highly recommend trying it out. Price wise both soaps come in around the €6 mark which is slightly on the expensive side of things but when you take into consideration the standard of ingredients used and the decent size of each bar, I find it is well and truly worth it.

In general I really liked these products and would highly recommend them. I personally prefer liquid soaps or shower creams to traditional bars of soap and would love to see Wild Oats Soap expand their range to include these varieties.

I received two soaps and a body oil from Karen @wild oats soap. I have no link or affiliation to Wild Oats Soap and all opinions expressed are my own
