Botanicals, established in 2003 are an organic and natural skincare company based in England. Their passion lies in producing high quality skincare products using the finest natural ingredients, all whilst keeping their products at an affordable price. They have a strong emphasis on working with the best ingredients nature has to offer and believe in the motto “nature knows best”. What really strikes me about this company is the passion they have for people’s health and wellbeing. They do not believe in using strong colourings or synthetic fragrances and are more about producing a product that is actually beneficial to people as opposed to one being aesthetically pleasing. That is not to say they don’t put love into each one of their products, they just let the simple uncomplicated ingredients speak for themselves.
Botanicals produce an array of skin and body care products that are not only hand blended but fully adhere to the strict guidelines set out by the European Cosmetics Products Safety Regulations. As my skin has really suffered whilst being ill, I tend to want to use more natural based products. I was delighted when Botanicals sent me out their nourishing face balm to try. This balm is composed of rose and camellia, two gentle ingredients that my skin really likes. I have to add, the many curve balls life has thrown at me over the past two years has resulted in the blog taking a back seat from time to time. Unfortunately, this can lead to some skincare/cosmetic products slipping into the cracks and not being reviewed for months and I am ashamed to admit sometimes even a year. As you all know, I don’t like to rush my reviews and when I am going through a particularly bad flare health wise, I don’t have the mental or physical energy to do anything. Hence, the reason I am still playing catch up on a lot of the beautiful products I have been sent. I must thank Botanicals for their kindness, understanding and patience as I know they are eager to hear my thoughts on the balm. To state as always, I have not been paid to review this and my opinions are my own.
This beautifully presented face balm is housed in a dark glass jar to protect the delicate ingredients inside. The label itself is simple but pretty in design and the overall packaging feels secure and robust. I like the addition of the screw top cap as it creates a good seal to prevent moisture contaminating the inner contents. This is essential to keep bacteria out of the product as Botanicals don’t believe in using chemical preservatives. When you first unscrew the lid you are met with the beautiful but delicate aroma of fresh rose. This scent is both soothing and comforting. The balm itself is semi solid, opaque and colourless.
The balm claims to deeply condition and nourish the skin especially dry patches. It is composed of 89% organic ingredients from sunflower, grape and jojoba seed oils, shea butter and vitamin e to rose geranium, rose flower and lavender oil. All of which are known for their soothing and nourishing properties. The balm itself is solid at room temperature but turns to a more liquid oil at body temperature. Even though it has the consistency of an oil it does not sit on the skin or clog pores. The balm absorbs into the skin beautifully leaving a soft texture behind along with the slight hint of rose. I like how the scent is delicate enough to not feel overwhelming.
I am a big fan of rose oil based skincare products in general as I find them gentle on the skin. I would also highly recommend them for people who suffer with sensitive skin. I really enjoyed using this balm and find a little bit certainly goes a long way. Although it is recommended for daily use, I would not personally apply it daily to my skin. I find it is a good product to have on hand for those skin misbehaving days and to treat dry skin during the winter. I also like to use it as a bit of a multiuse product to treat my psoriasis outbreaks and to rub into my dry lips and cuticle’s in order to keep them moist.
It is no wonder that this balm is an award-winning skincare product. Although expensive at £27.95 (which is around the €30 mark) for a 50g jar, I do find it lasts a long time if used sparingly. Only a small amount of product is actually needed in order to get the full benefit out of the wonderful natural ingredients. I would recommend this balm and would repurchase it. I must add that Botanicals use a lot of natural oils in their products so if you are undergoing treatment for illness I would consult your Doctors opinion prior to use. Botanicals products are 100% vegan and are not tested on animals.
